When I was a child, the flash of fireworks and the sounds of Chinese traditional drums were consisted of the scences of lively Chinese New Year. These represent my childhood memories. By the way of combining sound, light, and electric, 'Lively' is trying to rebuild the traditional semiotics and the scences in my memory.
'Lively' is a machine performance which was composed by myself. The beginning and end of performance was informed by the warm light, and the visual and sonic part interact with each other. The rhythm was created based upon some basic drum beats. Furthermore, a MaxMsp patch function as the core part conneted with openFrameworks and arduino in the system.
Working on laser cut and 3D printer. I used the laser cut to make the components of machines arms and 3D printer to make several brackets for holding the servos under there. As for the material chosed, they were mainly white and transparent materials. Especially the transparent material will be helped to enhance clickering effect in a dark environment. The circle plane is used to rotate machines arm vertically, which enable drum stilck to hit the inner and side of drums.
